India Fellow was instituted by iVolunteer in the year 2005 in partnership with Sir Ratan Tata Trust. In the first year, the programme was launched in Delhi placing 19 Fellows with rural organisations in Rajasthan, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.

In 2006, India Fellow was extended to Mumbai and Bangalore and supported by iVolunteer on its own. 28 Fellows were placed in 6 states across India - Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

In 2007, the programme took a further leap and with funding from HIVOS, iVolunteer placed 55 Fellows in 6 India states - Rajasthan and Uttaranchal in North India, Maharashtra and Gujarat in West India, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in South India.

Over the years, our Fellows have worked on diverse projects in the fields of education, self help groups (SHG), primary healthcare, microfinance, child labour, watershed management, biogas, child rights, ecology, village dynamics, public distribution system, panchayat raj, village mapping, water conservation & purification, wage structures & socio-economic conditions, livelihood (dyeing, fodder, irrigation, rainfed farming), income generation, Right To Information (RTI), sanitation, government schemes, women’s issues, baseline surveys, rural tourism, and tribal issues.

In 2008, we wish to offer more fellowships to urban youth from metro cities and expand our reach across India.
