KHUSHII-SMILE reaches out to the marginalized sections of the society, especially the rural areas. They believe in creating an environment conducive to people’s empowerment, executing people’s programme through need based intervention and integration of the underprivileged into the mainstream society. Volunteers can help children with classes on HIV/AIDS, moral etiquette, media education, art of living, career counseling, and environmental education beside others. Help is also required to manage and organize functions for the elderly and spend time with them.
 
 
AMAN BIRADARI is a people’s campaign for a secular, peaceful, just and humane world. It aspires to build local level institutions mainly of youth and women, of diverse faith, caste and gender, at village and district levels. Their Dil Se Campaign is about building capacity in all sectors of society to help ensure that the most vulnerable urban street children have nutritious food, protection, health care, and proper education. Volunteers are required to visit homes of street children and help street children whether homeless, begging or rag picking and assist them in rehabilitation and education which covers education, tuition, recreational activities, computers etc.
 
 
CII-SHIKSHA started with the aim of reaching out to all children especially to the underserved and making accessible to them good quality multimedia driven educational material. They are in need of volunteers to help conduct free training workshops for teachers on various aspects of e-based teaching and translation of multimedia rich school curriculum content into local languages. Teachers need to be made aware of the availability of such material. This will be held in Gurgaon and volunteers who can work part time, full time, online, or from home are welcome.
 
 
MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION OF INDIA enriches the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. It works to fulfil the most cherished wishes of children between the ages of 3 and 18 years, living with life threatening illnesses. The volunteer opportunity here involves fund raising, and wish granting and fulfillment. Volunteers would be required to visit hospitals and form a bond with the children there, understanding their wishes and then helping the organization to fulfill these wishes. This requires your time for 1-2 days in a week.
 
 
PRATHAM believes that universalization of pre-school education is an important strategy for achieving universalization of primary education. The organisation that started out in the slums of Mumbai in 1994 has today spread its activities to 21 states. Pratham has reached out to a million children using an accelerated learning method, in which an unlettered child starts reading and computing basic mathematics in 3 weeks. Pratham seeks volunteers to visit slums areas in east Delhi and teach children.
 
 
SMILE FOUNDATION promotes and catalyses universal education among underprivileged children, creating the process to embrace these children into mainstream in a sustained manner, facilitating them to emerge as productive assets, and setting the foundation for nation building. Volunteers are required to help the children with spoken English, computer application, retail management, basic management and personality development. Time commitment required is 2 hours every once or twice a week.
 
 
TARSHI is an NGO in New Delhi that has been working on Sexuality, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights since 1996. TARSHI works towards expanding sexual and reproductive choices in people’s lives in an effort to enable them to enjoy lives of dignity, freedom from fear, infection and reproductive and sexual health problems. TARSHI uses data from callers to the helpline to study trends and understand the reproductive and sexual health concerns of urban Indians. They require information recorded manually by counsellors to be entered into the computer in an MS Access Database and MS Word files for future analysis and reports. This data entry work requires volunteers to visit their Centre in south Delhi 2-3 days a week.
 
 
ABHYUDAYA is an organization working with the Bhati mine workers with a primary focus on women and children. This organization has helped the people reach a stage of self sustenance by training them to make textile products like Dari, bed sheets, scarves, toys, etc. They need support from volunteers to:
- help in raising funds anytime and any day of the week
- design the product: The volunteer should have either a degree or relevant experience in textile designing. No restriction regarding number of hours or days in the week.
- assist in documentation and proposal development: Volunteers can work from home or office but must have prior experience in proposal development.
 
 
KARM MARG, which literally means the "the path of action", started out as a small kitchen on a street-side of New Delhi Railway Station run by a handful of street children and a social worker. In the last seven years, with many ups and downs, Karm Marg has grown to become a home for 60 children, based on a 1.5 acre piece of farm land in rural Faridabad, 40km outside of New Delhi. Karm Marg seeks volunteer teachers for English, Maths, art and craft and also volunteers for documentation and report writing, all Faridabad based. Volunteers are also required for the NGO in capacity of educators, teachers and for documentation work.
 
 
AMBA took its first steps towards providing non-formal education in 1997 beginning at Joshi Colony community with a small group of 10 to 15 children. Today, Amba runs an education center for over 200 children and a health center attending to hundreds of patients coming from the adjoining slum clusters. Amba is in need of a volunteer:
- Computer trainer
- Doctor
- Teacher to teach Hindi, English and Maths for classes VIII to IX Fund raiser
 
 
HAQ: Centre for Child Rights is dedicated to the recognition, promotion and protection of the rights of all children. HAQ is involved in Research and Documentation, Engaging with Children, Training & Capacity Building, Legal Aid and a Resource Centre and run Advocacy Campaigns mainly focusing on child trafficking, child labour and education. HAQ is in search for volunteers to act as:
- DTP operators: selecting relevant material related to motions made in the parliament and collating data. Material is available with the NGO.
- Researchers
- Web masters
 
 
KAMAL NAYAN is a society working with children of slum clusters on education and health, along with running a school for these children. Their area of work is Okhla Phase 2. The NGO is looking out for volunteer teachers for all subjects including moral education, computers also volunteers in the field of special educators, medical and first aid teachers, sports teachers, community development workers and fund raisers.
 
 
BOSCO SELF RELIANCE PROGRAMME is a part of the Don Bosco youth and child programme working hand in hand with the UN body UNHCR to rehabilitate refugees. With its head office at Palam, the program has 4 centers at Faridabad, Malvianagar, Vikaspuri and Tilaknagar. Volunteers are required to help in marketing and selling products made by refugees.
 
 
CHILDHOOD ENHANCEMENT THROUGH TRAINING AND ACTION (CHETNA) is a Delhi based NGO working on the issue of street and working children with a special focus on the girl child. They believe that exploited, defenseless and extremely vulnerable children living on the streets have a right to their dignity which can be achieved through direct participation of children. Chetna is in need to of group of volunteers to help manage and organise an upcoming event and suggest ideas for the programme e.g. what type of western dance, dress, etc.
 
 
UDAYAN CARE is an organisation that works for children who are orphaned, abandoned and abused and do not have natural families. They create L.I.F.E (Living in Family Environment) HOMES for these children to promote family bonding, physical & mental health and social integration thus enabling them to experience the 'Joy of Living'. They are in need of volunteers for counseling and communication. For the former, volunteers should be professional counselors with good communication skills. For the latter, volunteers should good communications skills and the ability to manage volunteers. The volunteer counselors are required two days in a week and the communication volunteers are required on alternate days.
 
 
BAL SAHYOG is a social welfare organisation established in 1954 by Smt. Indira Gandhi with a view to make making poor slum children self reliant and independent by providing them vocational training and education. Bal Sahyog is in need of large number of volunteers who would be willing form groups and work on the various activities that the organisation is involved with.
 
 
SWANCHETAN is a non-profit organisation that strives to support victims in the immediate aftermath of a trauma till they are able to take charge of their own lives. The organisation focuses on issues such as emotional and psychological health and rights of victims of trauma and heinous crimes in the society, advocacy & education of victim’s rights and awareness within the community on protection from heinous crimes. Swanchetan is in need of a volunteer:
- programmer to set up basic MIS for all their core projects and support functions. This involves designing databases, developing report formats, reports, queries and forms. The volunteer should have past programming experience in SQL and Visual Basic and working knowledge of database design and front-end development.
- website manager to update dynamic web content regularly and make changes to static content on the website as and when required. Volunteer should posses a diploma in web technology.
- data entry operators to record questionnaire responses for data collected from school children. This opportunity requires knowledge of English and basic computers skills.
 
 
GOONJ aims to address one of the basic needs of mankind i.e. clothing out of three i.e. food, shelter & clothing. They believe in collecting “hardly used” materials and donating it to needy people in the remotest parts of India. As part of their Winter Campaign, they are urging people to donate unwanted woolens to Goonj so that it can reach homeless shivering families by next winter well on time. They are collecting large quantities of blankets and warm clothes for which volunteers are required to help spread the message and collect & distribute woolens among needy people.
 
 
MANZIL is an informal school for children of domestic servants, drivers, peons, gardeners and others. The students and teachers are underprivileged children, mentally challenged children and students or dropouts from government schools in the locality. Volunteers are required to teach English to the children and take up other initiatives, which they feel will help in enhancing the personality and confidence of the children.
Foreign volunteers willing to spare between 2 to 6 months of their time would be preferred.
