My journey of exploring the world around me and unearthing the unfamiliar realities of life started from 16th December 2005 – the day when I joined “iVolunteer”.

I can never forget the slogan I saw at the iVolunteer office –
“STOP THINKING about making this WORLD a BETTER place,
Because INTENTIONS don’t make a difference,
VOLUNTEERS do”.
The days from then on have been the most enthralling moments of my life.

The initial few steps were incredibly difficult, especially confronting few harsh realities, when I started to volunteer for ASHA Foundation to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS. I didn’t know what volunteering was all about and for ASHA Foundation I was the first volunteer so they didn’t know how to manage volunteers and most importantly AIDS Awareness was a tough volunteering task to start with.

But iVolunteer was present with frequent intervention and support in the form of a corporate workshop at BEA Systems on 26th April 2006, identifying like-minded people to form a group called iVolunteer-ASHA and helping us brainstorm and build our own strategies. All these things made my volunteering a lot easier and sustainable. This was just a start and I’m happy to say that there have been totally 34 significant events since then, all of which have been completely satisfying, fulfilling and enjoyable.

Over the past two years, volunteering has become a Way of Life. Volunteering has brought about a change in my in attitude, mindset and made me a better and socially responsible individual.
Today, my volunteering weekends are busier than my official week days.
- AIDS Awareness for ASHA Foundation
- Teaching underprivileged children at Deena Seva Sangha
- Fund raising for necessities of Government Reception Centre for girls
- Advisory Council Member at Navchetana Trust
- Part time course on Social Entrepreneurship & NGO Management at CSIM
All these and many more small acts of volunteering fill my weekends.
